It’s a long weekend!!! The Edmonton Oil Kings kick off the Memorial Cup tournament tonight in Shawinigan, Quebec. Go Kings Go! The Edmonton Rush are in Rochester, NY to play for the National Lacrosse League Championship. Let’s hope we add a few more championships to the City of Champions!!! It’s hump day. The long weekend and inflated gas prices inching ever so closer. Any plans? Heading out to a favorite camping spot? We will be making a trip back home to Cranbrook, BC to check in on my parents, perhaps snag a few recipes or two from Mama Rosa (yes the same lady as Nonna Rosa Chicken Soup, FYI “Nonna” is grandma in Italian). Have to think I will raid a few bottles of home made wine from my dad’s cellar. Really looking forward to it. You should really be looking forward to lunch today, it’s a cafe favorite!

The week is looking nicer and nicer and the weekend, holiday weekend no less is supposed to be spectacular. The cafe of course will be closed on Monday, but we will be up and running on Tuesday again….Great to see so many new faces in the cafe for the first time and hopefully not the last time. It’s just a matter of getting the word out and then also coaching them on how we do things here at Little Italy. It’s fun listening to the regulars explain to the new comers the ordering process and what’s available, next thing ya know, the newbies are just as versed as the regulars…love it! If you’re seeing this website for the first time, welcome. Let me tell you how it works. Everyday we prepare two pasta specials, available in half and full orders. All pasta dishes comes with garlic toast and salad. The salad itself comes with either Ranch dressing or the “House” which is a balsamic vinaigrette, and very popular. There are also sensational Sausages and Meatballs available on the side. Or, you can choose from any of our six panini sandwhiches. Grilled up hot or taken cold, and always delicious. Make it a combo by adding a salad and 16 oz fountain pop. Hope this helps, and hope to see all of you real soon.

Sheesh, life keeps rolling on day after day. The realization that things we grew up with, parts of our youth are slipping away from us. Case in point last Friday, Adam Yauch, founding member of the Beastie Boys passed away at age 47 from cancer, today I found out Maurice Sendak passed away at age 83. You may not know his name, but you probably know his work, he was the author of “Where the Wild Things Are”. Well, here’s to cherishing all those great things from our youth, and making new discoveries going forward…

Welcome back, how was the weekend? The Supermoon was a disappointment due to the clouds, but if you go online there were some great pictures taken from all over the world…The Edmonton Oil Kings have some work to do. They were beat 4-3 last night in game 3 of the WHL finals against the Portland Winter Hawks, and now trail 2-1 in the series. The guys have their work cut out for them, but they can pull this off. The next game goes tomorrow night in Portland before coming back to Rexall Place for game 5 on Thursday night…The Edmonton Rush stunned the N.L.L. by beating the Calgary Hitmen Saturday night in their playoff game. They will take on Minnesota on Saturday night, good luck Rush!…It’s going to be a beautiful day today, hope to see you at lunch. Have a great day!
